My Year in Review | 2017

This year has been filled with lots of new challenges and opportunities that I did not see coming when 2017 started. I am grateful for this year and what it has taught me about myself and those that I surround myself around.

On Snapchat, many of my friends were posting pictures of themselves from each month of the year, so I figured instead of doing it on Snapchat, I'll just do it on here for y'all to see. This post will also provide a recap of where I been this whole year like I promised in my last post and why I was not keeping up with this blog as much as I would like.

Let's Begin...

January

I am so happy to start off my new year with celebrating my birthday on Jan. 2nd.

February

My school always have a winter formal in February, so here is a couple of my friends and I enjoying ourselves.

March

I love volunteering. Some people from my school and I are volunteering with Hosea Feed the Hungry.

April

My dance team for my college performing at an annual school event called Stomp the Lawn.

May

My brother graduated from GSU *Southern* in early May, and surprisingly it was soo cold and chilly on this day.

My sister also graduated from high school in late May.

June

I started my Human Resources internship at a bank in Iowa. I will have another post talking about my internship experience and how I was able to go there and get that experience.

July

4th of July, I went to a county fair in Iowa and rode many rides. Fun fact, at the end of this ride I was not smiling, I was in fact dizzy and nauseous.

A couple of the interns and I at a bank wide event.

August

Ended the internship program with an out of office fun event for all the interns that I actually planned and set up.

Later that month, I started my junior year of college. I am a the Co-President for NSLS at my school and we had a clubs and organization fair for all the new students.

September

Fun roller skating night at school.

October

Photoshoot with dance team at school. This picture was just all the juniors who are on the dance team and to be honest we make up more than half of the team.

November

Fun SkyZone night with my junior class.

December

Annual event at my school called Boar's Head. There is a whole musical celebration and program for the whole student body and even alums to attend. After the celebration is an after party which is depicted here. This year the theme was Great Gatsby; they had mocktails and all. It was too cute.

Selfie before the Christmas Eve service at my church.

Inspirational Sunday

Today is your day! Take whatever doubt you have and throw it out the window! You can achieve and do anything you set your mind to! Day 1: inspirational quote

I haven't posted in a while, but I will catch you all up in another post about some of things that I accomplished this year. I am so thankful that it is winter break and I actually have time to relax and create some new content.

I chose this quote because I just finished a semester of my junior year of college and it was challenging. Challenging trying to manage everything even when I wanted to give up especially during the later part of the semester. I didn't give up and I kept on pushing through.  Honestly, I love all the support that my family and friends give me. Don't ever feel like you can't reach a goal or accomplish a dream because hunny, you can. As I embark on challenges and achievements of 2017, I can definitely look back and say that I can do anything I put my mind to.

You can find happiness.
You can find love.
You can find joy.
You can find peace.
You can find hope.

You can do anything. And I know there are so many people out there who can try to motivate you, but you are your only motivator. When you believe you can, then things will fall into place.

I have to remind myself of this everyday, especially when trials and tribulations come in my life and I feel defeated. I can remember that the Lord place me on this earth for a purpose and I can rise above all.

Making Friends in College

So I'm starting my junior year in college and I can't believe it; seems like I was just starting my freshmen year of college. One thought that went through my head as "freshmen me" was "how can I make friends in college?" Who knows,  your roommate or suite mates might end up being your best friend. But, if that isn't the case here is my advice on making friends in college.

If you are an incoming freshmen and are worried about making friends, don't worry, it will come naturally. Of course, first and foremost be yourself.

Join a club or organization to come in contact with others who probably have the same interest as you.

Eating with different people at the dining hall. Sad, but it is true that you can spot out the freshmen. So just sit down and start talking to them. Some common beginner questions include: where are you from, what's your major, and even where do you stay on campus. Those introductory questions can lead to something much more and find some common connection.

Hang out in the common rooms of your whole dorm building. I met so many people from just hanging out in the common rooms and playing ping-pong (which I'm not that good at).

Attend the first week of school events. I know many schools hold some meet and greets and social events for the whole student body which is a great way to meet new people at your school.

The classroom is another great way to make friends, especially if you see that person in another one of your classes.  Just an easy way to make a bond and also have someone to check your notes or study with.

Planner Supplies | Feauturing Lilly Pulitzer Planner

I am completely lovin' the planner phase right now and how others decorate them. For some reason, I can watch so many "Plan With Me" YouTube videos and just find complete joy from it and those videos definitely give me so much inspiration.
So I haven't planned out a week yet, but today post will just show everything I have so far for my planner.

I purchased the Lilly Pulitzer Tusk in the Sun agenda in jumbo.
My sister made the blue matte monogram decal for me.

From Amazon, I purchased the Staedtler Ballpoint Pens. I am going to be using these for notes also, so I wanted pens that do not smudge and are quick drying.

I ordered two printable sticker sheets off of Etsy.
Those are dedicated to school work. Stickers include: finals, midterms, read, study, exam, etc.
Two Etsy Shops:

These stickers found below are just some I found online for free.
Definitely join some Planners Facebook Pages like EC Horizontal Users. Some of the other stickers I downloaded are from:

When printing these stickers out at home, I purchased the Avery Shipping Label Laser (15265) 8 1/2 x 11 from Walmart.

I plan on just cutting out my stickers with scissors. I know many other use a Circuit machine.

This is what I have for my planner so far, and hopefully in the coming weeks I can show you all a full week spread.

Thanks loves.

How to Get Textbooks for Cheap

I honestly dread buying textbooks, but I have found other cheap alternatives for buying your textbooks. First, you probably heard it before so I'll say it again: DO NOT buy your textbooks for your school's bookstore. Those textbooks are wayy overprice, for no good reason, at all, but to take poor freshmen's money.

1. Use Textbooks Comparison Sites
Bigwords.com, SlugBooks, and TextSurf are only a few of the many comparison sites out there. When using these sites, just kind of map out what other sites offers your book for the lowest price.

Tip: If you can avoid buying New books, please do. Used books are often in great condition and cost so much less than New books.

Renting a book, is totally a cheaper route than buying your books. Also, a good idea to use a comparison site to see where to rent from.

2. Used Textbooks Page for Your School
Often times, your specific school might have a Facebook Page where other student's sell their textbooks, and often for much less. Even if the cost, isn't much less, sometimes you might get lucky to get a textbook where the former students wrote notes in that book that could totally help you out. And if not Facebook, sometimes I do see other student's selling their textbooks via YikYak.

3.  Borrow From Your Upperclassmen Friends
Are you in a sorority, fraternity, or just have some upperclassmen friends? Well, you should definitely ask if they have the textbook you are looking for and if they have any advice for that particular class. I am pretty sure your friends, sisters, or brothers will let you borrow their textbooks free of charge.

4. Your School's Library
Little know fact, many of the textbooks and little novels that you need for class can be found at your school's library.  You may re-check them out throughout the semester, just don't forget the due date and overdue charges.

5. Online PDFs
I have been oh-so-lucky to get a few of my required books for class on a PDF online. Definitely do a google search with the title of your book along with the word PDF to see if anything comes up. Many of the small novels I needed for English class came up in a PDF online.
