Where to Shop for Your Dorm

If you were anything like me before my freshman year of college, I looked for every kind of list as to what to bring for college. If you didn't know Bed, Bath and Beyond have wonderful lists of what you should bring for your dorm pertaining directly for your college/university. So I definitely used that list to help me out.

{Before Going Shopping}

Talk to your roommate/ suitmates: Before going shopping for your dorm, especially if you are sharing a room with another person, talk with them to see what he/she is bringing, so you all won't have many duplicates in such a small space. Also, it is good to talk to your roommate beforehand to see if you all want  a color coordinate and/or theme for the dorm room.

Make a list of what you will need to purchase.

Look online before you go to your stores to see their store ads and what they might have on sale.

Look on Pinterest or online to see different pictures of how other decorated their dorms to get ideas for your dorm.

{Where to Shop}

I know everyone always think of Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Walmart for the go to places for dorm shopping, but there are many other places that are also budget friendly to shop at for your dorm.

 1. TJ Maxx/ Marshalls/  Burlington: They have a wonderful selection for almost all of your college dorm essentials. I actually found my comforter from TJ Maxx last year.
2. Dollar Tree: Great for little storage bins. I purchases two small glass vase from here for my makeup brushes, and I put a monogram on the front of it. So really try to be creative.
3. Rose's: I'm not sure if this store is everywhere, but this is  definitely a great place to go for bathroom essentials.
4. Hobby Lobby/ Michael's/ Jo Ann's: Great place to look for storage bins for your dorm and also DIY decor projects supplies, like my DIY Flower Initial  on my blog. These craft stores always have coupons on their site, so definitely check out their website.

Just remember to keep track of all your receipts, so if you find an item somewhere else that you liked more or even for a better price, you can take the other item back.

If you are attending an out of state college/university and need moving boxes, instead of buying them, you can ask employees of the stores for their boxes that they are not using anymore. This will be helpful when you start packing your items for school.

Christmas Decor + DIY Project

As you all may or may not know, I am finally on winter break. My last final was on December 18th, and I was totally ready to get that last final done with especially since it was Microeconomics. If you all would like, I can do a post about what my first semester of college was like and maybe include a few advice and organizational tips.

The point being is that I haven't been home since Thanksgiving Break, and didn't have a chance to show the Christmas Decorations throughout my house, and also include a cute DIY project. Enjoy the pictures below.

My mom bought the snowflakes seen in almost all the picture below, a long time ago, so she did not recall where she bought them from, sorry.

This is my sister wreath hung on her door. She already had the printed monogram, but she used ribbon to wrap it around the wreath and add a snowflake to the top.

Flower Initial | A Easy and Inexpensive DIY

I did a DIY project for my freshman college dorm room, and I found this DIY off on Pinterest, of course.  So if you want to know how I did this Flower Initial, just read down below:

The supplies you will need:

  • 1 Wooden Initial ( Hobby Lobby)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Paint (Hobby Lobby)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Flowers (Dollar Tree)
  • A pair of scissors
  • Cardboard for painting

So the steps:

1. Paint your wooden initial. I painted my initial white, just as a base color, and not to distract from the flowers. Because essential you would be covering the whole wooden initial, so really painting is optional.

2. Remove the stems from the flowers. First, I thought I needed scissors to do this, but actually they pulled right off, which was great.!

3. Arrange the flowers on your initial to appear as you would like them when you hot glue them.

 4. Use the hot glue gun to glue the flowers into place on the wooden initial.

5. And then you are DONE.! Easy, right?

Finish product - where I hung my flower initial over my dorm bed.

DIY Tumblr Inspired Room

Hey y'all, I've been really inspired to make my room my own and add a little bit more "flair" to it. So I've seen so many people hang Christmas lights in their rooms year round and I thought that was adorable and it looks really nice at night. So here is a DIY I sorta put together.

Around the wall of my room, I put up little clear command strips.
Then I looped the ribbon on those command strips. Tying a knot on the command strips when I got to them, so that it could stay sturdy and maintain that "u" shape.
Next, I bought clothes pins (Dollar Tree) and painted them with different colors and designs. (I stuck to the colors white,pink,purple, and yellow.) I positioned the clothespins on the ribbon about 5 inches apart.
I found the pictures (things you like, quotes, food, places) off of weheartit and pinterest and just printed those out on card-stock.
After that, I hung the pictures on the clothespins that were on the ribbon around my room.
Finally, I hanged up the Christmas lights in a bigger "u" shape under the ribbon and pictures; so that the lights  look like its highlighting the pictures.

Hope you all enjoyed this post.

No Sew DIY Pocket Tee

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hey everyone.! This is a super fun and easy and fun DIY and I got this idea from  from Samantha's(videogirl131) video "DIY POCKET TEE
NO SEW"on Youtube. If you all go to her video she explained in greater
details how you can achieve this DIY, too. I simply recreated the look for you all today and listed below are the supplies and steps needed. Enjoy.!

{Supplies}

1. Tee-Shirt: Just a plain tee-shirt (any color of your choice,of course). I got this navy tee shirt from Walmart ( $3.98) in the Men's section.
2: Cardboard: I ripped a piece of cardboard from a package I got earlier and if you look at videogirl131 Youtube video you will be able to find the right measurements. Also, you can make your own measurements depending on how big/small you would like the pocket to be because you will be using this cardboard to trace onto the fabric.
3: Fabric: This is a scrap fabric that I already had from previous DIYs. You can find some fabric from Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or even Jo-Ann  for a good deal and for some super cute patterns.
4: Sisscors: Just to cut the cardboard and fabric. Any good pair will do. :)
5: Fabric Glue/Liquid Stitch: I got this from Hobby Lobby( $5.49); you will be needing this to glue down the edges on the pocket and glue the pocket on the shirt which creates the no sewing part of this DIY.

{STEPS}

So trace the outline of the cardboard pocket onto the fabric with a pen.
Here, just cut around the pen outline of the fabric leaving enough space to fold over the excess.
So I'm taking my Liquid Stitch(fabric glue) and applying that on the lines that I drew and folding the excess fabric over that line.
After you glue down all the excess fabric over the lines, let it dry for a few minutes; then you should have a completed pocket that will look similar to this.
Next, I tried on the shirt and played around with the pocket to see what position I wanted it at. After deciding the position (left chest area) I made these simply marks(as shown with arrows) with a marker, so when I take the shirt off I'll know where to put the pocket.
Finally, I aligned the pocket with the marks I had previously made and glued down all the sides, except for the top. Also, I folded the tip of the pocket so that the pocket is now rounded.
This is me with the completed DIY tee-shirt on.

Hope you all enjoyed this post.!
